How long do they take?
Our Intermediate Apprenticeships last 13-25 months and Advanced Apprenticeships last 12-48 months.
Where do they take place?
It is up to the employer. Most or all of the training is on the job in the workplace at times to suit the organisation. Most Derby College apprenticeships include a day a week of College-based learning.
What qualifications do they lead to?
Our apprentices gain a Level 2 or 3 NVQ, Functional Skills, and a Technical Certificate which shows they have industry-recognised skills.
What are Functional Skills?
All apprentices must develop Functional Skills that support them in their job, including Communication and Application of Number. They may also take other Functional Skills such as ICT, Working with Others and Problem Solving. Depending on the apprentice’s existing qualifications and experience, they could be exempt from some of these.
What are the apprenticeship levels?
Intermediate Apprenticeships (equivalent to five good GCSE passes). The apprentices work towards work-based learning qualifications such as an NVQ Level 2, Functional Skills and, in some cases, a relevant knowledge-based qualification.
Advanced Apprenticeships (equivalent to two A-level passes). Advanced apprentices work towards work-based learning qualifications such as an NVQ Level 3, Functional Skills and, in most cases, a relevant knowledge-based certificate. To start this programme, apprentices should ideally have five GCSEs (grade C or above) or have completed an Intermediate Apprenticeship.
Higher Apprenticeships. Higher apprentices work towards workbased learning qualifications such as an NVQ Level 4 and, in some cases, a qualification like a Foundation Degree.

[Music] my name’s down I made you and I’m Jasper I’m weird Nottingham RV’s second-year apprentices before beginning my apprenticeship I started my GCSEs on mail as I was attending to go to uni – through law however I thought and a friendship was more tailored to my hands-on learning again so his agent I too much ECC’s and animals time from the very start I would go into the friendship role juicy want to learn a hands-on specialist skill I also did a level two thought go to university to get a degree but quickly realized an apprenticeship not for me hands-on learning in in industry as well as knowledge avi appealed for me initially through the core values just the interstate in day-to-day and what is there welcome to approach the program I hope these foundation who build a successful career for me in engineering these ideas of solidified lazuli at the interview stage tomorrow at the factory or Main Street they are quickly realized at the processes and machines that are be used will give me a broad understanding of engineering as well as demonstrating throughout the safety quantities of paramount importance the company’s whole autofill to me is their product of our denoted years I was also well aware that I’ll be and the multiple poverty professional suicide which involves varied manufacturing and packaging processes I believe these different processes would give me mortal skills for career in engineering the apprentices stopped with his attending college for a year he’s in our performance engineering operations course which always developed a variety of engineering English from electrical installation a fabrication this year also storage Tussauds begin our beats a qualification for next three years we’ll be finishing off our BTech and then progressing onto agency and patron D qualification this is on a day release basis one day a week enabled us to apply the theory that we learned in the classroom into industry from the bucket work one of these three years we will also complete a level three MV q which consists of drop reports showing our competency after complete our four year friendship we have the opportunity to tender be college and progressed towards a foundation degree in electrical mechanical or manufacturing engineering which will give us a bachelor’s degree in engineering throughout our time as an apprentice to be a monthly review meetings without department manager and our live manager both one two one others group with all of apprentices we are also allocated a volunteer mentor who can speak to us for guidance if we ever buy so whilst in the factory that the opportunity we experienced six different placements over three years promises supply chain factory from site services through manufacturing and into packing as well as other areas of the business I’ve become my role and solidus Panipat trip which gives me a wide variety of different experiences of engineering skills to develop this involves a frequently planned of maintenance tasks on a number of different machines from the 30 20 100 in compressing the dreimann and granulation or kata bomber to incur Tim I am also involved in reactive breakdowns reported by operated using root cause truly to investigate easy shoes I are on with the solid dose modifier Antibes will repair these issues to keep the factory running the record is completed by all for each task willing to take and resolve this will dr. in our time on jobs and document pass order from son I have opportunity to them rightly as jobs as job reports my colleague and Riku the documentation of images to I’m responsible to manage my safety so complete and risk attack risk assessments is an essential part of the job following the completion of my apprenticeship a shift at position would be hopefully my permanent role as I’ll be able to stay on the tools and make an impact on the business by keeping the factory running correlate is part of my placement our controls technician parts of the controls and instrumentation team morale in the factory is complete calibration work Norma Shearer and equipment to the short is running and functioning as intended my work range is all around a factory from the press machines validation on the objects bottle wash line and the current checks on equipment my work means that I come into contact with different types of engineering skills with different types of equipment both electrical and mechanical show me a broad spectrum of engineering on completion on my air pressure ship I’m hoping to hold a role that enables me to work on a factory floor so that made directly involved with hands-on engineering activities my current placement is insight services this department is essentially responsible to the smooth running of the factory that I was included in supply and extract we document utilities like steam water electricity the general upkeep of the factories like doors our lives my day-to-day activities include carrying out plan maintenance on a weekly monthly and yearly basis we also respond to breakdowns of repair requests another aspect of the jobs looking after contractors and issuing documentation such as a such as authorities work and permits work this placement allows me to get hands-on experience on a wide range of machinery and systems I believe this gives me valuable skills and knowledge I wouldn’t necessarily get in the classroom I’m also working with a hardened steel team from different backgrounds it’s brilliant for an apprentice point of view they’re more than happy to impart that knowledge and often no tips and tricks and made a job easier as I come towards the end of my apprenticeship like get some experience with manufacturing and control and Instrumentation as a field was have around off my understanding the factory’s processes make me a better engineer the apprentice program also offers a degree pathway which strongly appeals to me wanted to market on and as I’ll have several years of experience and a degree hopefully I can give backs company by using the skills and theory I’ve learned and progress in my career as a highly skilled and competent engineer so far I feel I’ve benefited from our apprenticeship in many ways I thoroughly enjoyed each aspect I hope to continue developing throughout the solid Iseman a faction team well the engineers benefited me along the way this apprenticeship has been really enjoyable it’ll carry out maintenance go into college or just having laugh at my team although it’s been challenging at times always thought I’m on the right path my privilege to call myself an RB employee I have over the moon that shows that I’ll be is my friendship I believe the very much of machinery on site means a wide range of skills can be learned my pairs of employees all friendly and very helpful which means I want to come to work and I enjoy being here which means I can progress further as an engineer [Music]
