Course Information for Students

This apprenticeship is for those who work in an engineering maintenance role in mechanical and electrical disciplines. You will be responsible for completing planned preventative maintenance, fault finding and tending to breakdowns.    

Maths and English at Grade 4/C or above or Level 2 Functional Skills.

You will learn the foundation knowledge and skills required for this role such as using hand fitting tools, mechanical assemblies, fluid power and wiring and testing. You will also complete a BTEC qualification where you will study subjects such as mechanical and electrical principles, mathematics for engineering, project and CAD. 

In your first year of the apprenticeship you will learn practical skills, mainly be in a workshop setting. In the final two years of this apprenticeship, you will be classroom based, completing assignments within set timeframes. 

Personal Protective Equipment including overalls, safety boots/shoes and safety glasses. 

You will be assessed through a variety of methods both in college and in the workplace, this will include report writing, being observed, taking part in professional discussions and completing written assignments.  

Depending on your role, you could progress onto a Level 4 Engineering Manufacturing Technician Standard or a Level 4 Lead Engineering Maintenance Technician. This would be subject to your efforts in Level 3 and tutor interview.

Course Information for Employers

This apprenticeship is for those who work in an engineering maintenance role in both mechanical or electrical disciplines. You will be responsible for completing planned preventative maintenance, fault finding and tending to breakdowns.    

Maths and English at Grade 4/C or above or Level 2 Functional Skills.

The apprentice will require an experienced mentor that they can learn on the job skills. The apprentice will be required to attend college one day per week, during term time across the three years. 

Apprentices are expected to work safely at all times, demonstrate professional behaviour both in work and at college and eventually be able to work independently. 

Level 3 Engineering Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship 

BTEC Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering 

Apprentices will be assessed through a variety of methods both in college and in the workplace, this will include report writing, being observed, taking part in professional discussions and completing written assignments. 

One day per week for three years (term time only).

Standard PPE including safety boots/shoes, overalls/workwear and safety glasses. 

Depending on their role, they could progress onto a Level 4 Engineering Manufacturing Technician Standard or a Level 4 Lead Engineering Maintenance Technician. This would be subject to their efforts in Level 3 and tutor interview.
