Who is this course for?
This qualification is aimed at students aged 16 years and over who want to study digital media focusing on digital multimedia, photography, graphic and web-based design concepts, and production development. The pathway has been specifically designed for students wishing to study a single creative subject plus work experience, tutorial and personal and professional development.
It will provide you with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to access and progress to degree-level study and employment in the media sector.
You will have an opportunity to explore and develop your creativity within a qualification structure which is stimulating and demanding and which provides a supportive transition from general to more specialised study.
Entry Requirements
Typically, you will have at least five GCSEs graded 9 – 4 / A*- C, including English Language and Maths.
Alternatively you may have equivalent intermediate qualifications at Merit grade or above, along with GCSE grade 4/C in English Language and Maths.
What will you learn?
While studying this pathway you will take between eight and 13 units, culminating in a final major project.
These units will develop your understanding of how different media institutions operate to create products that appeal to specific target audiences. The units also develop your transferable skills such as critical and contextual awareness, planning, design and research skills, and leadership skills. Throughout the course, you will understand how digital multimedia products are used and learn how to design, create and test a product.
Other skills that will be developed include working in a team, communication, adaptability and evaluation. You will also have opportunities to find out from employers how the skills and knowledge you acquire are used in the workplace.

How will you be assessed?
Throughout the duration of the course you will complete various units of study as you work towards your final major project. Your tutor will assess you via various internal assessment methods, and your work will also be externally moderated.
Qualifications are graded using a Pass, Merit, Distinction (and referral) structure.
