DCG media course helped Adilah choose marketing route
Derby College Group media student Adilah Abambres is looking forward to starting a degree in advertising and brand communications at Manchester Metropolitan University this September.
Adilah, 18, recently completed the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media: Moving Image and Audio Production at DCG and feels well prepared for progression to higher education.
She said: “My Derby College course has taught me a lot about the media but among the biggest lessons I’ve learnt is how to be independent and use my initiative.
“Before coming to college, I used to be reluctant to ask for help or advice but now I’m quite comfortable with it. Our tutors give us plenty of freedom but they’re also always there for us.
“I was really happy to get on the course as I like the way it’s structured, with no exams, just coursework.
“I also enjoyed the project work, using the production audio equipment and camera equipment, and researching aspects of the media I hadn’t previously been aware of.”
Adilah had previously considered all career options in the media sector, including journalism, but chose marketing after learning more about it during DCG’s employer presentations.
She added: “Another good thing about our course was hearing from employers working in the media.
“They came into college to do workshops with us. Among them was marketing agency Clearview, who told us what their industry’s all about.
“I found that really helpful. After uni, I’d like to work in social media, branding or advertising.”
