DCG Examination Information Exams FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions – Exam Results

If you have any questions or concerns about your grades, please speak to your tutor in the first instance.

Grade Boundaries

Grade boundaries are the minimum number of marks required to achieve each grade in an exam. They are set by exam boards and help determine what mark equates to a specific grade – for example, how many marks are needed to achieve a grade 4 or grade 7 at GCSE level.

Grade boundaries can vary slightly each year depending on the difficulty of the exam.

  • Pearson: Grade boundaries | Pearson qualifications
  • AQA: Grade boundaries
  • WJEC: Results, Grade Boundaries and PRS
  • City and Guilds Technicals: Resource Hub

Post Results Services

If you’re unhappy with your exam result, speak to your tutor first. They can help you decide whether to pursue a post-results service, but please be aware that your grade could go down as well as up.

Available Services

Clerical Re-check

A clerical re-check of a marked paper includes:

  • Checking that all parts of the script have been marked
  • Checking the totalling of marks
  • Checking the recording of marks

Access to Script

A ‘script’ refers to the written paper of a candidate from an externally assessed component. Access is available for:

  • GCE AS and A-level
  • GCSE
  • Level 1, 2 and 3 Vocational and Technical qualifications
(Note: This service is not available for City & Guilds Level 2 and Level 3 Technical qualifications.)

Priority access to scripts provides a copy of the marked paper to help decide whether to request a review or re-check.

Standard access is available for teaching and learning purposes with candidate consent.

Reviews of Marking

  • Available for externally assessed components of both unitised and linear GCE AS, A-level, and GCSE specifications
  • Also applies to Level 1, 2 and 3 Vocational and Technical qualifications
  • Includes clerical re-checks
  • Priority service available for A-level and Level 3 qualifications

Requesting a Post Results Service

To request a service, you must complete the form provided by the College and pay the required fee by the agreed deadline.
