A focus on activities this term

Students have been working on social action project to raise awareness on various topics, such as mental health, raising money for local and national charities, such as Doorways, Cancer research, animal rescue organisations.

Students have been project managing the social action projects developing their essential skills such as: communication, problem solving, working effectively in a team, leadership skills and creativity.

Whilst developing essential skills, planning and organising a project as well as researching charities, students and staff have had fun along the way – some students even had the chance to sponge their teachers to raise money for SpecialEffect, a charity working with disabled gamers to create adapted software and peripherals to create inclusive gaming spaces.

DCG students are asked to respect and value their fellow peers and the wider community by adhering to the 5 P’s of Professional Behaviour:

  • POSITIVE – Being open-minded, willing to listen and celebrating diversity.
  • POLITE – Speaking respectfully and appropriately.
  • PUNCTUAL – Arriving in class ready to begin learning on time.
  • PREPARED – Being equipped and ready for lessons with a CAN DO attitude.
  • PROFESSIONAL – In dress, language and behaviour.

Lanyards and Identification

All students are required to wear their College Lanyard and Identification Card (ID card) at College at all times. It must be visible unless they are in a practical situation and have been told by a member of staff to take it off.

All students must bring their identification badge to College and wear it whilst on a College campus, this is for their safety and others. There is a charge incurred to those students who continue to fail to bring their ID badge.

STUDENT ENAGAGEMENT

If your child is unable to attend College, they must inform us. They can do this by submitting an online ‘Absence Form’.

Your child can find the absence form in two handy places:

  1. In the MyDay app by clicking on the ‘Report Absence’ tile on the home page.
  2. Alternatively, the Absence Form can be accessed from the DCG website.

Go to the DCG website
> Scroll to the bottom of the homepage and look for the ‘Quick Links’ section
> ‘Report an Absence or Lateness’ in the Quick Links menu:

Your child will then need to log in to their College Microsoft account. They will be prompted to enter their email address and password, on successfully doing so – they will then be asked to authenticate their login.

We welcome the support of our parents and carers in supporting with attendance. We are keen to ensure students maximise their opportunities for learning and encourage all to attend where they can. It is important to attend all elements of their Study Programme, which does include Vocational or Academic learning, English and or maths, Tutorial and Work Experience. Please encourage your child to report their absences using the above process.
