Ofsted and Awards

DCG is subject to a variety of inspections that measure the quality and impact of its work with students, employers and the wider community.

An Ofsted Good Provider

DCG retained its ‘good’ grading from Ofsted following a short inspection in December 2019. The report highlighted the Group’s excellent links with local employers and the way students are well prepared for further study or employment.

Carers Federation Quality

DCG achieved The Carers Federation Quality Standard in Carer Support for the proactive support it provides to students with caring responsibilities at home. ‘Outstanding’ nursery

Little Explorers, DCG’s pre-school nursery based at Broomfield Hall, was rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted inspectors in all aspects of its work. Strengths included visionary leadership and a vibrant learning environment.

Ofsted praise for teacher training

DCG’s involvement in the University of Derby’s initial teacher education programmes was awarded the highest accolade from Ofsted. DCG is a key partner in the University’s FE and Skills provision, which received an ‘outstanding’ grade.

Silver with a Gold for Student Outcomes in National Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF)

Derby College Group (DCG) has been awarded Gold for Student Outcomes and Silver for Student Experience, Silver overall, by the Teaching Excellence and Framework (TEF) panel of The Office for Students, who recognises excellent teaching in UK Higher Education providers. Career Mark quality award

DCG again received the top accreditation from the licensed awarding body, Career Mark, in recognition of its consistent quality in providing careers, employability and enterprise advice and guidance to its students.

Achieving the Matrix standard

Assessors for the matrix Standard commended DCG’s approach to providing information, advice and guidance to support students in their career, learning, work or life goals. The Group was re-accredited to this important standard which benchmarks organisations against best practice.

A Microsoft Showcase College

DCG was chosen by IT giants Microsoft as one of the first institutions in the world to become a Showcase College. It means DCG benefits from the company’s vast resources of research and knowledge, including the development of more personalised learning for students.

Autism-friendly accolade

DCG became the first further education college in the region to be officially recognised by Autism East Midlands for its work to support students with Autism and to raise awareness of Autism in the local community.

A College of Sanctuary

In recognition of its efforts to create a climate of welcome and safety for the asylum and refugee community, DCG was awarded College of Sanctuary status – the fourth organisation in the UK to be granted this honour.

Champion of character education

We are the first further education college in the country to achieve the Association for Character Education kitemark for putting character and values at the heart of all our activities.
