Course Information for Students

This is a two-year technical study programme designed with employers to give young people the skills that the childcare and education sector needs. It will provide a mixture of:

  • Technical knowledge and skills
  • An industry placement in a range of childcare settings: a minimum of 750 hours
  • Relevant maths, English and digital skills embedded within the curriculum

This course is delivered at the Broomfield Hall campus in a new bespoke learning environment where students can develop and practise the skills required to work in the sector.

You need a minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English Language and Maths.

You will study:

  • Core knowledge and skills relevant to the childcare and education sector, for example child development and supporting education
  • Occupation-specific specialist skills and knowledge

In Year 1 you will study 12 core elements and in Year 2 you will further develop your knowledge and skills through a chosen specific pathway.

This course will be delivered on-site at our Broomfield Hall campus.

For College you need to bring a notebook, pen and folders (teachers will explain more at your induction).

For your placement you will need flat shoes and smart trousers and you should purchase a placement top from DCG.

You will be assessed via a variety of methods such as external exams, controlled assessments, an employer-led set project and synoptically through practical assignments.

You could consider a higher level apprenticeship or a higher education degree in a subject such as Primary Education.
