What will the apprentice be doing?

At all times we adopt a professional and industry standard approach to decoration work.

Our painting and decorating apprentice will fill a vital role within our team, working 5 days, Monday to Friday. Their main duties and responsibilities will be to support the Painter and Decorator Lead will all decoration tasks, both planned and reactive, and assist with preparatory work in anticipation, in accordance with departmental procedures and protocols.

They will help maintain stocks of equipment and consumables and will liaise with building users to minimise the impact of redecoration work. They will also assist in the cleaning and maintenance of painting and decorating equipment  as well as College vehicles used to carry out redecoration across sites.

We would expect our apprentice to have an understanding that they would be working in a college environment and therefore of the need to maintain a professional distance from the Derby College students, staff and visitors and have an awareness of safeguarding responsibilities. Our apprentice will also be expected to support and work with the wider maintenance and estates teams as required.

There would also be an expectation that they wear college uniform and PPE at all times. Work will be carried out both inside and outside buildings and sometimes in inclement weather and appropriate protective clothing will be provided.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • Level 2 Painter and Decorator Apprenticeship (Standard)
  • You would spend four days each week working alongside and learning from experienced professionals and once day each week completing college training.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

  • Following successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will have access to all approved vacancies at DCG.
