What you'll need to succeed

What you'll be doing

  • An office-based role with site visits on construction sites and site surveys of existing buildings.
  • Work as part of internal and wider project design teams
  • Designing building services for refurbishment & new builds including heating, lighting, ventilations systems etc
  • Co-ordination with other disciplines and specialists
  • Assisting preparation of building service designs, calculations, specifications and reports
  • Assisting engineers in managing projects

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Higher Apprenticeship - Building Services Engineering Senior Technician Level 4

This apprenticeship will be completed by working 4 days per week onsite with the employer, learning the job role and gaining valuable work experience, and then 1 day per week attending Derby College to complete coursework and assessments.

English and Maths Functional Skills may be completed alongside the apprenticeship if necessary, however, passing this will be mandatory to receive the apprenticeship qualification.

A Level 4 qualification in Construction and Built Environment that meets the knowledge requirements of the standard and is approved by the Engineering Council as meeting the learning outcomes specified for EngTech at level 4.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

BEC are committed to assisting engineers to achieve membership to the Chartered Institute of Building Service Engineers (CIBSE) at all grades upto Chartered Engineer.

This vacancy is an office based design role however site visits are required to either existing buildings or new build construction sites.
