Access course gives lecturer Steven more than a sporting chance
When access learner and sports fan Steven Rimmer joined Derby College’s access course in Ilkeston, he quickly knew he wanted to be a lecturer one day.
Now three years on he’s not only lecturing but is also shortly to have his research work on boxers’ nutrition published in a leading sports science journal.
A former footballer who almost turned professional, Steven is pleased that his love of sport has led to an academic career.
Derby College has shown me that I am academic and suited to a teaching career. I want to emulate those lecturers who taught me on my access course and help other people like me get the chance to go on to university.
