Level 3 student Brooke working towards career in equine vet nursing

Bonding with horses, making new friends and getting to know her teachers have been among the best parts of studying at Broomfield Hall for equine student Brooke Gelder.

Brooke, 18, completed the Level 2 Diploma in Horse Care last year and is currently on the Level 3 Technical Extended Diploma in Equine Management.

She hopes to become an equine veterinary nurse when she finishes her studies with Derby College Group.

A rider since the age of four, Brooke has known that she wanted to work with horses since Year 9 at school.

But she wasn’t sure which equine course to take until she did her own research on social media and discovered DCG’s Broomfield Hall.

She said: “I really enjoyed my level 2 and passed the course with a distinction. It’s more coursework than exam based so half the time we were in the classroom and the other half in the yard, which broke up the day.

“I really liked biology while at school and on my level 2 and I’m now studying it on my level 3 as well, but towards the veterinary side.

“I live in Buxton and I didn’t know anyone when I first came to College but I quickly made friends.

“Some of the best parts of coming to study at Broomfield have been the chance to build a bond with the horses, get to know all the staff and form friendships with people who share the same interests.”

And when Brooke isn’t at College, she likes to spend her time riding her horse, Pie and working as a yard groom at a Nottingham riding school.
