Fun, furry friends and fantastic activities at Derby College Group’s Animal Unit Open Day this May!

Get ready for a fantastic day out for all the family as Derby College Group’s (DCG) Broomfield Hall throws open the gates to its much-loved Animal Unit Open Day on Sunday 11th May 2025, from 11am to 3pm.

Visitors of all ages can look forward to a jam-packed day of animal encounters, demonstrations, charity stalls, refreshments, and family-friendly activities, all set within the beautiful grounds of Broomfield Hall.

The event offers a rare chance to get up close with a wonderful array of animals including goats, wallabies, alpacas, giant rabbits, tortoises, guinea pigs, and even giant ants.

Plus, guests can meet the dedicated Animal Care students and staff, and hear all about the exciting new environmentally-friendly pond and wildlife garden created by the students themselves, alongside brand new enclosures designed for the animals’ comfort and wellbeing.

Animal demonstrations and interactive sessions will take place throughout the day, giving visitors a behind-the-scenes look at how the College cares for its amazing animal residents.

Jonathan Taylor, Animal Unit Co-ordinator, said:

“This is one of our most popular family events of the year, and we’re really excited to show off the animals, our fantastic new enclosures, and the brilliant work our students have done with the new eco-pond and garden.

“It’s a fun, affordable day out for the whole community, and every penny raised helps care for our animals.”

All proceeds from the day go directly towards supporting the Animal Unit and its furry, feathery, and scaly residents.
