Come to Lambing Sunday at Broomfield Hall to meet the adorable newborn lambs for a spring spectacle!

Nothing truly heralds the approach of spring like the sight of newborn lambs in the pastures, together with the appearance of daffodils, snowdrops, and brighter evenings.

And to help celebrate this special time of year, Derby College Group is holding its popular Lambing Sunday event at its Broomfield Hall campus in Morley on the 24th of March.

And it is expected that this year there will up to 170 lambs!

In addition to getting to know some of the other animals that the College’s staff and students are taking care of, visitors will be able to meet and pet the lambs and take a tour of the operational farm.

Visitors can also visit a variety of the Animal Care Unit’s resident creatures, such as rabbits, mini-pigs, wallabies, donkeys, meerkats, porcupines, and many more, during this open house!

There will also be a special appearance by Broomie the Sheep. Broomie was found lying in a field a year or so ago, close to death and unable to use his front legs.

But thanks to the dedication of the team at the College he has been nursed back to health and is now back on his feet again and waiting to greet visitors to Lambing Sunday!

Adrian Oliver, Farm Manager at Broomfield Hall, said: “The next few weeks are going to be a really busy time for us at the College as we have 110 ewes all waiting to give birth.

“Visitors will be able to see new-born lambs, older lambs… and maybe even the chance to see some of the lambs being born!

“It really is a fantastic day out for all the family, and we’re looking forward to welcoming people to come and share this magical time of year with us.

Adrian continued: “Like every year, our students will help bring these new lives into the world and in turn, will look after the newborns.

“Lambing Sunday is a great time for us all, as it is always heart-warming to see the reaction of, especially the children, to all the newborns.”
