All are invited to outstanding students’ showcase

We are delighted to announce our Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) Showcase, taking place on Wednesday 15 October 2025, 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm, at the Joseph Wright Centre (JWC), Cathedral Road, Derby DE1 3PA.

This free public event offers a unique opportunity to experience the hard work, creativity, and independent scholarship of A-level students.

Visitors will be able to see how students have applied their research, analytical, and organisational skills to self-directed projects, from scientific inquiry to creative production.

Since November 2024, students at JWC have been working on their EPQ alongside A-levels, designing and developing original research or artefact-based projects across a wide range of subjects.

Attendees will be free to browse the displays, speak with students about their work, and engage with over 80 varied projects, covering topics such as invasive species, public trust in policing, sculpture, folklore, and more.

Sally Archer, Head of A-levels, said of the showcase:

“The students have shown so much passion, confidence and enthusiasm while putting their projects together.

“It’s clear they care deeply about the topics they’ve chosen, and each project has been very well researched.”

“This showcase demonstrates the value of going beyond the curriculum, equipping students with life skills in research, self-direction, and communication.”

The EPQ is highly regarded by universities as it fosters critical thinking, independent learning, and strong presentation skills.

Many students also gain additional UCAS points or a competitive edge in applications through their EPQ work.
