FE Early Career Framework

What is the FE Early Career Framework?

The challenges of teacher recruitment and retention in the Further Education sector are well-documented. FE competes with industry in recruiting technical teachers and it competes with schools to recruit academic teachers

An effective induction programme within FE would support parity with schools, potentially increase recruitment and retention of F.E teachers and drive up the standard of teaching so that F.E. is more equipped for effectively delivering national policy initiatives and support Local Skills Plans. There is an urgent need for this.

The FE Early Career Framework is a pilot project funded through the FE Professional Development Grant (FEPDG). The FEPDG pilot has a number of key aims including:

  • fulfil the skills for jobs white paper commitment to strengthen the professional development of the FE workforce
  • drive improvements in FE professional development provision and support in 3 priority areas of need:
  • support for new and inexperienced teachers
  • stimulate improvements in workforce development and the standard of teaching in the sector by increasing opportunities for FE and providers and staff to collaborate and share effective practice
  • produce resources and approaches to workforce development that can be adopted by other FE providers
  • stimulate FE providers and the market to provide high-quality professional development and training for staff working in the sector

The FE Early Career Framework has been developed, and will be delivered, collaboratively between DCG and Nottingham College

The programme consists of 6 modules developed by Advanced Practitioners from Derby College Group and Nottingham College. Each module is made up of a 90 mins delivered session on the topic and a collection of learning resources and pre session reading to compliment the delivered session.
