This course is for learners who are unsure about their future career path and want to explore different vocational areas before deciding. It’s ideal for those seeking confidence, employability skills, and a supportive environment to discover their interests while improving their English and maths skills for progression.
Entry Requirements
You’ll need English and Maths at grade 1, equivalent, or below, and should attend transition events to ensure readiness. This pathway suits learners who want to keep their options open, build essential skills, and gain experience across multiple sectors before choosing a specific career route.
What will you learn?
You will learn a mix of practical and theoretical skills across different vocational areas, such as construction, care, business, or creative subjects. Alongside this, you’ll improve your English and maths through functional skills or GCSE studies, helping you prepare for further study or employment opportunities.
How will you learn?
Learning takes place through practical workshops, classroom lessons, and group projects. You’ll experience different sectors, develop problem-solving and teamwork skills, and receive personalised support. English and maths lessons run alongside vocational tasters to strengthen your academic foundation for future progression.
What will you need to bring with you?
- Bring stationery such as pens, pencils, and a notebook for theory lessons.
- Wear suitable clothing for practical activities, and PPE may be required for certain sessions (e.g. safety boots for construction).
- Be prepared to engage in a variety of tasks across different subject areas.
How will you be assessed?
· Practical tasks to demonstrate hands-on skills as well as your employability, teamwork, and essential skills for the future.
· Portfolio of evidence showcasing your progress and completed projects in Digital Skills, Personal Development, and Sustainability.
· Functional Skills or GCSE exams in English and Maths, including final exams for GCSEs if you are working towards them.
Where next?
After completing your Routes course at DCG, you can progress to Level 1 or 2 in your chosen area, such as Construction, Health and Social Care, Automotive, Engineering, Business, Creative Arts, or a vocational pathway. Apprenticeships and entry-level employment are also available for career development.
