Who is this course for?
This course is ideal for learners who want to begin a career in the automotive industry. It’s designed for those with little or no prior experience who are keen to develop practical skills in vehicle maintenance and repair, while improving confidence and employability for future progression.
Entry Requirements
You’ll need English and Maths at grade 2/1, equivalent, or below, and attend transition events to ensure readiness. This course is suitable for learners who are motivated to work in a practical environment and committed to developing both technical and essential skills for the automotive sector.
What will you learn?
You will learn the fundamentals of vehicle maintenance, including engine systems, tyres, brakes, and workshop safety. The course also covers essential problem-solving and teamwork skills, alongside improving English and Maths through functional skills or GCSE, preparing you for further study or entry-level automotive roles.
How will you learn?
Learning takes place through hands-on practical sessions in a fully equipped workshop, supported by classroom lessons for theory and health and safety. You’ll work on real-world tasks, develop technical knowledge, and improve English and Maths skills to support your career progression in the automotive industry.
What will you need to bring with you?
You’ll need Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety boots, overalls, and gloves for workshop activities. Bring stationery including pens, pencils, and a notebook for theory lessons. Wear suitable clothing for practical work to ensure comfort and safety while completing hands-on automotive tasks.
How will you be assessed?
- Practical tasks in Vehicle Maintenance to demonstrate hands-on skills
- Portfolio of evidence showcasing your progress and completed projects in Digital Skills, Personal Development, and Sustainability.
- Functional Skills or GCSE exams in English and Maths, including final exams for GCSE if you are working towards them
Where next?
- Further study at DCG at Level 1 or above
- Level 1 or 2 Automotive courses at DCG
- Apprenticeships in the Automotive industry.
- Employment in entry-level roles in the Automotive industry.
