Course Information for Students

This course is for anyone aiming to become a qualified Early Years Educator. It suits those passionate about working with young children and seeking a nationally recognised qualification that combines theoretical learning with practical experience.

It stands out due to its hands-on approach, strong links to industry, and emphasis on both academic and practical development.

You need to be aged 19+ (before 1st of September) and should have:

  • GCSE English grade 4
  • A work placement – as you will need to complete 350 placement hours
  • A satisfactory DBS check
  • The right to study in the UK

Throughout this course, you’ll gain a thorough understanding of child development from birth to age seven, safeguarding and welfare practices, and how to support children with special educational needs and disabilities. You’ll learn to promote play, learning, and school readiness, build professional relationships, and apply early years frameworks in practice. Practical skills are developed through a supported placement, where you’ll be guided by an assessor and placement mentor to apply your knowledge in real-world settings.

You’ll study through distance learning, with access to engaging online materials and regular support from a dedicated tutor. Learning is flexible and self-paced, allowing you to balance study with your other commitments. Deadlines for unit submissions will be established to help you manage your time effectively. Practical skills are developed in a real-world early years setting, where an assessor will guide and observe your progress to ensure you meet occupational standards.

When attending enrolment, please bring your ID, qualification certificates, DBS check, and placement details with you.

When meeting with your tutor or assessor during the course, please bring any required work or relevant materials with you.

You’ll be assessed through a combination of written assignments, reflective tasks, professional discussions and direct observations carried out in your placement setting. Your assessor will evaluate your practical skills and professional competence, ensuring you meet the standards required for the Early Years Educator role. All evidence is compiled into a portfolio, which is internally assessed and externally quality assured.

After completing this qualification, you’ll be fully equipped to work as a Level 3 Early Years Educator in a range of settings. You may choose to enter employment directly or progress to higher education, such as a foundation degree or teaching qualification.
