Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for students who are interested in starting a career in health and social care.
Entry Requirements
You will need five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including Maths and English Language.
What will you learn?
You will cover a variety of health and social care units across the two years. These include:
- Working in social care
- Equality, diversity, dignity and rights in social care
- Communication in social care
- Advocacy in social care
- Prevention and control of infection
- Safeguarding in social care
- Sociology of health and illness
How will you learn?
This course will be delivered on-site.
What will you need to bring with you?
Students must obtain a College DBS check. You will also need to provide any stationery needed to support your learning, including pens, highlighters, notebooks etc. A Health and Social Care Academy polo shirt is required to be worn for lessons. Whilst on placement you will need practical, smart clothing and shoes: some placements may require you to purchase a uniform. Further information will be provided at Induction.
How will you be assessed?
You will develop a portfolio of work using a variety of methods such as written assessments, presentations, displays, case studies and work environment simulations.
Where next?
After this course you could progress into employment in roles such as care worker, personal assistant, community support worker, outreach worker, and activities co-ordinator. You could also progress to further education to study a degree in Social Work, Health Care or Health and Social Care.
