Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for students who are interested in beginning a career in health and social care. It provides an introduction to the sector and builds knowledge around understanding on how to promote equality, diversity and rights and safeguard individuals, You will also gain an understanding of human lifespan development and you will carry out practical assessment to promote person-centred care. You will have the opportunity to attend work placement and continue to study Maths or English Language are part of your course.
Entry Requirements
You will have achieved a GCSE Grade 4 or above in either Maths or English Language, along with 3 other GCSE’s at grade 3 or above including Maths or English Language.
What will you learn?
You will gain knowledge and understanding of working within the health and social care sector. Subjects you will learn about include:-
Human Growth and Development
Safeguarding and Protection in Health and Social Care
Equality, Diversity and Rights in Health and Social Care
You will continue to study Maths or English Language as part of your timetable and there is an opportunity to gain work experience within a health or social care setting.
How will you learn?
This course will be delivered on-site.
What will you need to bring with you?
You will need to provide any stationary needed to support your learning, including pens, highlighters, notebooks etc. A Health and Social Care Academy polo shirt are required to be worn for lessons and a DCG DBS check is required to attend health and social care placement settings. Further information will be provided during your induction.
How will you be assessed?
This qualification is course work based. Overall grades range from A*-D.
Assessments will include a variety of methods including written assessments, creating power points and academic posters, presentations, case studies and practical assessments.
GCSE’s will have formative assessments that take place throughout the year to support your learning with final externally set examinations.
Where next?
Following successful completion of level 2, achieving a grade āCā, attendance and work placement targets along with the relevant Maths and English Language at grade 4 there is opportunity to progress to level 3.
Apprenticeships
Job roles may include Health Care Assistant, Care Support Worker roles across the sector.
