Course Information for Students

Who Is This Course For?

This qualification is ideal for automotive technicians, vehicle maintenance professionals, and public service personnel (such as emergency responders) who work with or around electric and hybrid vehicles. It’s particularly suited to individuals who already hold a Level 3 qualification in vehicle maintenance and repair and are looking to upskill in electric/hybrid technologies.

Why This Qualification Matters

As electric and hybrid vehicles become increasingly common, the ability to safely maintain, repair, and replace high-voltage systems is essential. This IMI Level 3 Award ensures technicians are equipped with the knowledge, practical skills, and safety awareness needed to work confidently and competently with advanced vehicle technologies — protecting both themselves and the public.

Learner entry for these qualifications should be assessed on an individual basis. Selection criteria for entry should take into account each applicant’s existing academic/vocational qualifications and experience in working in the retail automotive industry.

Although not mandatory, it is recommended that learners will have 3 GCSEs, or Scottish Standard Grade/Intermediate in Mathematics, English and a Science-based subject.

Level 3 Technical Specialist in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle System Repair and Replacement (Award) Individuals will already have appropriate vehicle maintenance and repair knowledge and skills at level 3
