This course is aimed at those who are currently employed - or who are about to be employed - in the electrical industry. You will be expected to demonstrate competence in the workplace and at College by developing both practical and job knowledge skills.

Entry Requirements
To access this course, you must have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths or a Level 2 Functional Skills qualification. GCSE in science is highly recommended. You also need to feel passionate about learning more about the subject.
What will you learn?
During this apprenticeship, you will learn to:
Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems in various environments, including industrial, commercial, and residential settings.
Understand and comply with safety regulations such as the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Electricity at Work Regulations.
Perform electrical installation and testing for both AC and DC systems, including single and three-phase.
Work with new technologies like electric vehicle charging systems, renewable energy technologies, and smart grids.
Communicate effectively with clients, team members, and other stakeholders.
Plan and manage projects to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality outcomes.
How will you learn?
This apprenticeship is delivered both in college on a day release basis over three academic years and in the workplace where a portfolio of evidence will be built.
What will you need to bring with you?
You will be required to come equipped with the following personal protective equipment (PPE): safety boots, safety glasses and company workwear/overalls. Additionally, you are expected to bring note-taking equipment, such as a pen, paper, and/or a laptop.
How will you be assessed?
You will be assessed through examinations, observation on practical work, job write ups, witness testimonies and professional discussions.
The end-point assessment (EPA) for the installation and maintenance electrician apprenticeship includes:
- Observation with Questions:
- Duration: At least 17 hours.
- Includes at least 10 questions from an independent assessor.
- Interview Underpinned by a Portfolio of Evidence:
- Duration: At least 90 minutes.
- Includes at least 12 questions about the apprentice’s occupation.
- Multiple-Choice Test:
- Duration: 90 minutes.
- Consists of 40 multiple-choice questions.
- Open book format, allowing access to reference materials.
The overall grades available are fail, pass, and distinction. The EPA period typically lasts 6 months after the training period of 48 months.

Successful completion of the course will result in recognition as a qualified electrician (installation or maintenance). This could result in full-time employment or self-employment within the industry.

Are they any entry requirements for my apprentice?
Your apprentice will need GCSE grade C/4 or above in English and Maths or an equivalent qualification. It is recommended that the apprentice has achieved a GCSE in Science. They should also demonstrate that they are passionate about learning.
What is required from the employer in the workplace?
Apprentices will require to attend all off the job training during term time to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours of the standard and complete their mandatory qualification. Employers will actively be involved in the 12 week review process and support target setting to develop the apprentices. Employers will support in preparing the apprentice for their End Point Assessment (EPA).
