Who is this course for?
This qualification enables learners to develop knowledge and understanding of caring for individuals with dementia. Successful completion will allow learners to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of dementia and its effects. It will support progression into relevant employment within the health and social care sector, or enhance the knowledge of anyone who already is working in the sector.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements. However, applicants would need to demonstrate the ability to work at Level 3.
*The course is free if you are unemployed or earning less than £18,525, otherwise it is subject to learning loan or equivalent tuition fees.
What will you learn?
You will study the following mandatory units:
- Understanding dementia
- Understanding person-centred approaches to dementia
- Principles of communication
- Supporting positive interaction
- Principles of equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care
- Understanding how to support individuals with dementia to exercise choice and rights
- Principles of administration of medication
How will you learn?
Delivery will involve a blended model with both on-site and remote independent learning.

How will you be assessed?
You will produce a portfolio of evidence that will be assessed by your tutor.
Where next?
You could progress to further Level 3 qualifications covering issues such as Mental Health Awareness.
