Course Information for Students

The aim of this course is to provide the learner with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to carry out chainsaw maintenance and cross-cutting safely and in accordance with current legislation and industry standards. 

You will need to be at least 18 years of age. Ideally you should have some experience in the industry.

The course will cover:

  • The knowledge, practical implications and legal requirements concerning the use of a chainsaw
  • The knowledge and practical skills to safely and efficiently undertake basic chainsaw maintenance operations
  • The knowledge and practical skills to safely and efficiently undertake practical cross-cutting operations

This course will be delivered on-site.

All specialist safety clothing can be provided by the College, for which a fee is payable.

Please note, equipment is not available for hire for the assessments. You will therefore need to have other arrangements in place for your assessment.

Candidates may use their own chainsaws on the course providing that they comply with current legislation.

It is recommended that candidates do not specifically purchase specialist equipment prior to the course. During the training, advice on the purchase of all specialist equipment will be offered by the course instructor.

One-to-one practical assessment with oral questioning.
