Who is this course for?
Are you interested in exploring what the media sector has to offer? This one-year course is designed to give you a general overview of what media is and the skills you need to succeed.
This qualification gives you the opportunity to develop a range of practical skills used within the sector as well as developing your research skills, critical thinking and reflection skills. The knowledge and skills you’ll develop over the year will be enhanced by a series of projects focusing on different areas of the media sector.
The Level 2 Certificate is equivalent to one GCSE. To support your main study programme, personal and professional development and work experience, you will also resit your English Language and Maths GCSEs.
Entry Requirements
You will need at least four 3 grades at GCSE, with a minimum grade 3 in both English Language and Maths.
What will you learn?
During the one-year course, you will complete two units:
A1 – Skills Development
A2 – Creative Media Project
The Skills Development unit is split into two projects to explore and gain different skills in the Media sector, including video, design and audio.
How will you learn?
This course will be delivered on-site through a range of lessons which will cover both theory and practical elements.
What will you need to bring with you?
You are required to supply your own stationery and SD card. All technical equipment required for the course is available for loan from the College.
How will you be assessed?
Both A1 and A2 will be assessed through coursework marked against the BTEC specification and will be internally and externally verified. All evidence produced for assessment is based on practical portfolios of work along with research, idea generation and planning, creative process logs and self-reflections.
GCSE English Language and Maths will be assessed through a controlled assessment, mock exam papers and final exams.

This course is an excellent platform for you to start working towards a Media career.
Provided you can demonstrate aptitude for this exciting subject by passing all the required units at Merit or Distinction level, and you have a grade 4 in English and Maths, you could progress to a Level 3 course.
Careers
This course can provide fundamental creative skills that are valued in other subject areas such as Engineering, Business or Marketing. It could also support progression to an apprenticeship in Media or a related sector.
