Course Information for Students

Who is this course for?

The VTCT Skills Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Specialist Techniques is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in providing eyelash and brow treatments, removing hair using waxing techniques, applying make-up, manicure, pedicure and skincare. The purpose of this qualification is to develop your skills in beauty therapy to a high level of occupational ability, enabling you to perform your own salon services.

Entry Requirements

Applicants starting this course will need four GCSEs at grade 3 or above. Resits for both Maths and English will be taken.

What will you learn?

Underpinning this qualification, you will develop a sound knowledge of health and safety practice in a salon environment, how to contribute to the effective running of a beauty business, how to carry out effective salon reception duties and how to display retail stock to promote sales in the salon.

To further enhance your practical skills, you will have the opportunity to choose from the following practical units: the application of tanning techniques, instruction on make-up application, removing hair using alternatives to wax such as threading or sugaring, eyelash lifting, ear piercing or the creative skill of nail art.

How will you learn?

Delivery will be largely practical, but there are a number of exams that must be achieved to complete the course. Classroom-based theory lessons will support the fundamental understanding of the practical techniques being used. The course is face to face and delivered at the Roundhouse.

What will you need to bring with you?

You will need to purchase a kit and uniform. These are compulsory and will be required throughout the course. Financial assistance can be provided. Costs will be confirmed during open days and tasters, with purchase information made available at enrolment.

How will you be assessed?

There a number of mandatory exams to complete the course. These must all meet the minimum Pass standard. Beauty therapy techniques will be assessed practically and you must be able to source clients in order to complete all assessments.

Where next?

Progress is expected to the Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy following successful completion of the course and the achievement of either Maths or English at grade 4 or above. Level 2 courses in Nail Technology or Hairdressing are available to those who still require resits in these GCSE subjects.
