Who is this course for?
This is a Level 2 qualification suitable for those already working in finance, those returning to work after a break or those wishing to change career. The qualification is open to those who are working and those who are not currently in employment. It also offers progression for students who have started studying accountancy and bookkeeping with AAT.
The qualification will help students to develop a strong foundation of the bookkeeping knowledge and skills needed to work in accountancy and finance or to go on to study higher-level bookkeeping or accountancy.
Students completing this qualification will be able to carry out typical bookkeeping transactions and tasks with confidence. They will also gain an understanding of how typical tasks are automated through use of accounting software.
AAT offers a bursary for anyone 16 years old or over. Check your eligibility here: https://www.aat.org.uk/qualifications-and-courses/fees-funding/bursary

Entry Requirements
This qualification would be an ideal next step for students who have already studied accountancy and bookkeeping with AAT. It would benefit you to have completed the Level 1 in Bookkeeping, but this is not essential. To be successful on this course, you will need to be highly motivated and commit to out-of-class learning and revision.
You will need a minimum of GCSE grade 4 (C) in Maths and a good standard of English, or you may have experience of working in an accounts office.
You will be required to complete an interview prior to the course and AAT recommends that students use AAT Skillcheck to ensure that they’re ready to start on a particular qualification. The AAT Skillcheck will also be completed during the Induction Week with teaching staff.
What will you learn?
The purpose of the Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping is to make sure that you have the bookkeeping skills needed for most finance roles.
You will study two mandatory units:
- Introduction to Bookkeeping
- Principles of Bookkeeping Controls
You will develop practical accountancy skills in the double entry bookkeeping system and in using associated documents and processes. You will be able to check transactions for accuracy, make entries in appropriate books and ledgers, and calculate sales invoices and credit notes. You will also cover more complex bookkeeping procedures, including dealing with VAT, reconciliation and trial balances, and develop an understanding of the relationship between accounting records.
How will you learn?
This course will be delivered face to face on-site.
What will you need to bring with you?
As part of your AAT course, you will need to purchase resource/text books to aid your revision.
The cost is £910 (AAT membership and the cost for the first exams is included).
This qualification is available under Adult Education Funding (AEB).
AAT offers a bursary for anyone 16 years old or over. Check your eligibility here: https://www.aat.org.uk/qualifications-and-courses/fees-funding/bursary
