Course Information for Students

This course is for individuals who would like to learn about canine first aid and the steps you take in a first aid emergency. Our Canine First Aid course is a great way to understand some of the basic measures that can be put into action. On completion of the course, you will be issued with a College certificate.

Please be aware that you will be contacted up to a week before your course is due to take place to confirm where to meet.

You should have a genuine interest in dogs and should be keen to establish an understanding of canine first aid. Opportunity will be provided to practise certain procedures.

  • First aid procedures including scene assessment and barrier use
  • CPR
  • Choking
  • Control of serious bleeding and bandaging
  • Shock management
  • Spinal injury management and stabilisation of fractures
  • Normal values: temperature, pulse, respiration

The course entails on-site attendance at Broomfield Hall, with theory, videos and practical learning on:

  • Scene assessment
  • CPR
  • TPR
  • Bandaging

You will be required to supply your own:

  • Sensible closed-toe flat footwear
  • Sensible clothing
  • Writing materials
  • Refreshments

Assessment is by observation of your practical performance throughout the day
