Course Information for Students

The Level 2 Award in Developing Leadership and Team Skills is designed for employees who are new to leadership responsibilities or aspiring to move into their first leadership role.

This qualification builds essential leadership and team skills, focusing on communication, motivation, teamwork, problem‑solving and professionalism. Learners develop the confidence, behaviours and practical skills needed to support team performance and contribute effectively in the workplace.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification.

It is suitable for learners aged 16+ who:

  • Are in work or a realistic working environment
  • Have additional responsibilities, such as supporting others or leading tasks
  • Aspire to progress into leadership or management roles

Learners will complete one mandatory unit and one optional unit, allowing us to create a bespoke programme around your organisation’s specific priorities.

Mandatory Unit

201 – Personal and Professional Development as a Senior Team Member
This unit helps learners understand the importance of personal and professional development, identify development goals and create a personal development plan to improve their performance in the workplace.

Learners select optional units from a wide range, including:

202 – Supporting Team Performance
Builds skills in teamwork, communication, giving instructions and providing constructive feedback.

203 – Responding to Disagreements in the Workplace
Develops confidence in recognising and managing disagreements professionally and reflectively.

205 – Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace
Develops understanding of fairness, inclusion, legislation and inclusive workplace behaviours.

207 – Problem Solving
Introduces structured approaches to identifying problems and contributing to solutions.

We will help you select the two units best aligned to your workplace challenge. The full suite of units is available on request.

This course is delivered off-site.

Nothing additional is needed.

Assessment is portfolio‑based, allowing learners to evidence their leadership practice in real workplace scenarios. This includes reflective accounts, observations, workplace documents and other evidence. There are no exams and learners build evidence naturally as part of their role.

This qualification provides progression opportunities to the ILM Level 3 Certificate in Leadership and Management Skills.

It also supports progression into supervisory, team leader or junior management roles.
