Course Information for Students

You will gain the painting and decorating skills needed for construction, giving you the opportunity to progress to higher levels.

As well as improving your practical abilities, you will develop your skills in maths and English, which will support your main programme of study, enhance your life skills and help with your future career progression.

GCSE grade 2 (or equivalent) or higher in Mathematics

GCSE grade 2 (or equivalent) or higher in English

You will be required to attend an interview with a member of the construction team.

Please note that, the content and course title may differ based on the government updates.

Units will include:

·        Safe working practices

·        Communication skills

·        Basic wallpapering

·        Painting techniques.

Practical and theoretical tests will be delivered throughout the programme.

Essential Skills

These sessions are designed to further develop you into society and better prepare you for the world of work, not just as an employee but also as a potential self-employed person.

Tutorial

You will meet with your tutor on a regular basis and will cover topics that are beneficial towards helping to make you more employable. You also have the benefit of receiving 1-1 sessions designed to guide you towards the highest achievement as is possible.

Work experience

You will be expected to complete a minimum number of work experience hours.

 

Dependant on your GCSE grades:

 

Math

You will continue to study Math in order to improve you current grade and better prepare you for your chosen trade.

English

You will continue to study English in order to improve you current grade and better prepare you for your chosen trade.

You will learn on-site.

While we make every endeavour to run programmes as advertised, we reserve the right to cancel those which do not enrol sufficient numbers to make them viable.

You will need to supply your own safety footwear.  A small charge may be made for other Personal Protective Equipment required to complete the course.

Assessment is via observation of practical work.  You may be required to undertake real trade projects on which you will also be assessed.  Your maths and English skills will be assessed through a controlled assessment or final exam.

You can progress to a Level 2 Diploma in Painting and Decorating as a full-time learner.  There is also the potential to enter an apprenticeship or employment in the construction industry.  If pursuing further studies, you will continue to develop your literacy and numeracy skills.
