Course Information for Students

This Higher Technical Qualification is a work-based learning Level 5 qualification that may be used as a pathway into health and social care careers.  The course combines academic work and the development of practical skills through relevant industry experience.  Industry experience may be through voluntary work experience or paid employment within the sector. This course is ideal for students who hold a Level 3 qualification and wish to continue their studies as well as those who have experience of the sector and wish to gain a higher qualification and progress their career path. 

Course fees apply:  applications can be made to Student Finance. 

This course will be run in partnership with a leading university and is subject to validation.

You will need a Level 3 qualification and Maths and English GCSE at grade 4 or above.

Students with the relevant work experience may be exempt from the Level 3 requirement but should have achieved the GCSE requirements. 

Units will include essential skills for working within the sector such as Person-centred Care as well as your own personal development through reflection and practical skills through work-based learning.

The course units will be delivered on-site.  The practical element will be assessed in the workplace. 

You will be required to obtain a College Enhanced DBS.

You will need to secure your own industry experience that meets the needs of the course.

Assessment will be carried out through a variety of methods including essay and report writing, presentations, practical activities, case studies and role play.

Possible progression opportunities into employment opportunities may include health and social care management or teaching.

Further education opportunities may include progression to degree courses such as Paramedic Science, Nursing, Social Work and Occupational Therapy.
