Course Information for Students

This course is designed for existing plasterers and renderers.

There are no entry requirements for this course, though it is advisable to either be experienced in applying plaster and render or to hold a qualification in the plastering trades.

The training will start with a short theory session on system, cold spot awareness, PPE and render systems. This will be followed by practical tasks covering:

  • Dry/wet fixing external wall insulation
  • Fixing beads/edgings to wall areas
  • Applying base coats and reinforced mesh system
  • Finishing system with silicone render system

Understanding external insulation

  • Explaining systems, cold spots and fixing insulation using a wet/dry fix technique
  • Describing the system, techniques and typical faults/issues that may arise with the system

 Using external wall insulation

  • Fixing track, cutting techniques and applying insulation
  • Secondary fixing wall insulation with screw fixings
  • Cutting and applying beads
  • Mixing and applying base coat technique
  • Cutting and fixing mesh system
  • Top coat silicone render finish

 

This is a skills-based course which will be taught within a workshop environment in the form of a practical.

Some elements that cannot be covered in a workshop setting will be undertaken within one of our classrooms.  

You need clothing that is appropriate for working in construction, safety footwear, safety glasses, safety gloves and writing materials.

Work will be monitored and assessed throughout each day and a finished product will be assessed, with feedback given. A short test will be administered to check on knowledge retention.
