Canine First Aid at Home

This course is for individuals who would like to learn about canine first aid and the steps to take in a first aid emergency. It is a great way to understand some of the basic measures that can be put into action. On completion of the course, you will be issued with a College certificate. 

The course covers information from our Introductory Canine First Aid course as well as signs of health, restraint techniques and a wider range of first aid situations. 

You should have a genuine interest in dogs and should be keen to establish an understanding of canine first aid. Opportunities will be provided to practise certain procedures. 

• Normal and abnormal signs of health in dogs
• Restraint methods: correct use and application of equipment
• First aid – what it is and what is involved, including scene assessment and barrier use
• Normal values of temperature, pulse and respiration (theory and practical)
• First aid situations

Theory and practical: 

• Scene assessment
• CPR
• TPR
• Bandaging

The course takes place on the Animal Unit at Broomfield Hall.

You will be required to supply your own: 

• Sensible closed-toe flat footwear
• Sensible clothing
• Writing materials
• Refreshments

Assessment is by observation of your practical performance throughout the day.
