The engineering sector is also still growing at a considerable rate, particularly with the development of new technologies, which in turn has led to skill shortages and demand for high-performing engineers.
The two-year full-time BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering has been designed to support school leavers who wish to further their development as engineers, leading to a highly rewarding and well-paid career in this sector. The course can also be taken as part of a career enhancement route by adults.
Entry Requirements
Prior achievement of the following GCSEs and grades is necessary:
- English 4/C
- Maths 5/B
- Science 4/C
For school leavers – and adults wishing for career advancement or change – prior achievement of an Engineering qualification at Level 2, or relevant work experience, can be considered.
What will you learn?
To achieve the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, students must complete three mandatory units and the optional units below over two years.
The mandatory units are:

- Communications for Engineering Technicians
- Mathematics for Technicians

- Electro, Pneumatic and Hydraulic Systems and Devices

- Engineering Drawing for Technicians
- Engineering Primary Forming Processes
- Mechanical Measurement and Inspection Techniques
- Engineering Design
- Applications of Mechanical Systems in Engineering
- Electrical and Electronic Principles in Engineering
How will you learn?
This course will be delivered on-site.
What will you need to bring with you?
In addition to regular writing materials and a scientific calculator, specific PPE may need to be purchased for selected activities.

On successful achievement of the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, you can progress to the BTEC HNC in Engineering or Degree programmes.
Careers
Alternatively, and with employment in a qualifying role, an apprenticeship in engineering or career as an engineering technician would be possible: this qualification can be used as credits/evidence towards the apprenticeship knowledge elements.
