Who is this course for?
The city of Derby and the surrounding area is world renowned for its engineering and manufacturing industry and is populated with world leading employers and their high quality supply chains.
The engineering sector is also still growing at a considerable rate, particularly with the development of new technologies which in turn has led to skill shortages and demand for high performing engineers.
Using the latest suite of qualifications, the fully funded two-year part-time BTEC Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering has been designed to support adults who wish to further their development as engineers, leading to a highly rewarding and well-paid career in this sector. The course can also be taken as part of a career enhancement route.
Entry Requirements
Prior achievement of the following GCSEs and grades is necessary:
- English 4/C
- Maths 4/C
If you do not have the above grades, please still apply as we will be able to support you in gaining them while you are on the programme.
For this course to be fully funded, it must be your first Level 3 qualification.
What will you learn?
To achieve the BTEC Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, students must complete three mandatory units and at least nine optional units. The mandatory units are:
- Health and Safety in the Workplace
- Communications for Engineering Technicians
- Mathematics for Technicians
Optional units available include:
- Further Engineering Mathematics
- Electro, Pneumatic and Hydraulic Systems and Devices
- Engineering Drawing
- Principles and Applications of Electronic Devices and Circuits
- Computer Aided Drafting
- Autonomous Systems
- Calculus for Engineers
- Mechanical Systems
- Engineering Materials
- Electrical Principles
- Mechanical Principles
How will you learn?
The course is delivered at our Roundhouse Campus through taught lessons and tutorials.
What will you need to bring with you?
In addition to regular writing materials and a scientific calculator, specific PPE may need to be purchased for selected activities.
How will you be assessed?
You will be assessed by a variety of methods including:
- Written assignments
- Practical assessments
- Presentations
- Project
Where next?
On successful achievement of the BTEC Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering – and if you meet the relevant university entry criteria – you could progress to a full-time course in Higher Education (such as a Degree or HNC/D.)
