After School Club (Wednesdays – April to June 2024)
The after school club is for young children (8-12 years old) who want to come and spend an hour learning about the amazing animals at Broomfield Hall Animal Unit.

Who is this course for?
The after school club is for young children (8-12 years old) who want to come and spend an hour learning about the amazing animals at Broomfield Hall Animal Unit. Each week will focus on a different section of the Animal Unit so there is always something new to see and do. Children will learn how to handle some of the animals, help with grooming the animals, undertake behaviour observations, make enrichment, conduct health checks and help to feed the animals.
Children will work in the following sections of the Animal Unit: Reptile Room, Small Mammal Room, Rodent Room, Zoo Animals and Farm Animals.
Parents/guardians are welcome to wait on site while the children undertake the activities.
Entry Requirements
Participants will need basic literacy and numeracy skills, and some basic knowledge of animal care. They should be aged 8-12 years.
What will you learn?
The session will cover:
- Feeding the animals
- Enrichment building
- Health checking
- Handling (where applicable)
- Grooming animals
- Behaviour observations of the animals
How will you learn?
The club is delivered on site at Broomfield Hall Animal Unit.
What will you need to bring with you?
Participants will be required to supply their own boots or wellingtons, which should preferably be steel toe-capped, or they can borrow some from the Animal Unit.
How will you be assessed?
There is no assessment.
