Course Information for Students

This course will provide an introduction for beginners and the opportunity for more advanced creativity in art and design for those wishing to improve their skills and understanding. This is the first of three art and design courses designed to develop new skills and creative practices. There are no formal assessments and the cost of materials is included in the course fees.

There are no entry requirements.

The course will cover the basics of drawing and painting, with as much development in a personal direction as can be arranged. There will be set activities designed to develop clear spatial skills, to learn about the formal elements of art and design, and to set you off in an individual creative direction of your own. Mixed media and three dimensional elements may be a possibility.

You will learn on-site with one of our experienced creative Art and Design lecturers who will guide you through a range of techniques and practices to evolve your creative experiences.

You may want to bring your own smock, apron or protective clothing depending on your individual project. The College will not be held responsible for any damage to your clothing so please dress appropriately.

There is no formal assessment, but feedback will be continual through discussion and advice.

The course should prepare you for personal creative enjoyment. A course such as this would enable you to develop a portfolio of work to present should you wish to begin the process to enter mainstream education. You may wish to continue to Parts 2 and 3 which are planned to be delivered later in the year. Other adult courses are available: please review our Careers Ladder Prospectus.
