This hands-on course will provide you with an introductory insight into the basic principles of wallpapering. It is ideal for those looking to take on a new DIY wallpapering project at home, or for those in a similar trade looking to expand their services.
There are no formal entry requirements for this experience - you just need a keen interest in developing your skills.
You will learn about health and safety around the home and what essential tools, materials and equipment are required to get you started.
Each week our DIY expert will provide step-by-step guidance - from preparation to application - in each of the following activities:
1 - Preparing walls and application of lining paper
2 - Application of blown vinyl to walls and ceilings
3 - Application of pattern wallpaper and borders
4 - Application of vinyl wall coverings
There are no assessment criteria - just observe, have a go and enjoy!
If you have your own desired project or design, please feel free to discuss this with the course facilitator.
All materials will be included in the cost you pay.
Please note that you are likely to get messy, so consider wearing appropriate clothing. You will be working within a practical environment so steel-capped safety shoes must be worn in the workshop at all times.

Mother-of-two Angela Ward returned to Derby College to study painting and decorating with a clear goal in mind – to set up in business.
With skills and qualifications under her belt, she is now planning to launch her own venture decorating children’s bedrooms with bespoke artwork and murals.
Angela had previously worked with elderly people as a carer before giving up her job to bring up her children. But she was determined to pursue her entrepreneurial dreams, so enrolled at College as a mature learner.
Her high quality work, dedication and professional approach earned her the Construction Built Environment prize, sponsored by Bowmer & Kirkland, at our 2014 Peak Awards.
It has been a struggle to juggle College and home life but I have loved every minute of it. The Peak Awards were a lovely way to finish my Derby College experience.
