Course Summary

This workshop is the perfect opportunity to work on a personal project, such as crafting favours, place settings and/or signs for a wedding, or creating a personalised gift or piece of artwork.

You will have the opportunity to experiment with designs, gain practice using the software and operate the laser machine. You will make at least one finished piece/set, depending on the complexity of your project and design.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. We welcome beginners who have little or no experience of design or laser cutting. You will receive full guidance and support throughout.

Course Content

This course is the perfect opportunity to bring your crafty ideas to life. You can come to the course with a personal project in mind, which you can discuss with our learning facilitator.

Your personal project may include designing and cutting:

  • a set of wedding place names, favours or 'save the dates'
  • a wedding welcome sign and/or a series of wedding signs
  • a personalised wedding cake topper
  • a personalised gift including a chosen quote or lyric
  • a personalised piece of artwork to fit into a frame
  • home accessories including decorative signs
  • a personalised door hanger
  • personalised gift tags

You can bring sketches or drawn ideas with you. Handwriting and drawings can be digitised using the design software or manually traced using the software drawing tools.

The process can be as hands-on as you like, from complete design to operating the laser machine. You will be guided throughout the whole process, but you and your creative ideas will lead the project.

How will I be assessed?

To ensure that you make the best possible progress, the learning facilitator will provide regular supportive and constructive feedback.

Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required?

A material starter kit will be provided and is inclusive of the price paid.   This kit will provide you with basic materials such as mattboard wood and acrylic.

You will also have the opportunity to purchase any additional materials.
