Extra Support for Resolute Non Smokers
Derby College is teaming up with NHS Stop Smoking Service Fresh Start in the New Year to provide extra support for staff and students who want to be smokefree.
Fresh Start, which is part of NHS Derby City, will be at the college’s Roundhouse vocational campus on the 6th and 7th January, providing information and advice and to show staff and students the information that is now available on the college’s intranet system.
Members of staff and officers from the Student Union are also being trained as stop smoking advisors and will be the first port of call for any college staff or students who want to access the free support service.
Fresh Start’s Tim Burch explained: “We have worked with Derby College for some time now – providing information and also attending student tutorial sessions.
“I am delighted that we will be working even closer with the college in the New Year, which is traditionally a time when people make that important decision to stop smoking.
“Research shows that you are more likely to succeed with support and we provide that on a one-to-one, drop-in or group basis – whatever suits the individual.
“With this support on the doorstep, I hope that a great many of those staff and students who do smoke will now find it easier to kick this habit that is so damaging to their health and pockets.”
