National Apprenticeship Week at Derby College
Young people interested in apprenticeships are being invited to a series of events at Derby College as part of its activities to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week next month.
School pupils from across the city and county will be visiting The Roundhouse and nearby Johnson Building in Pride Park on 7th February for a host of "have a go" activities ranging from Care and Engineering to Construction and Sport.
An apprenticeship information evening will then be held at The Roundhouse on Tuesday, 7th February between 5:30pm and 8pm with information about vacancies available, how to apply for an apprenticeship and the chance to have a go at different vocational activities.
Derby College Head of Employer Engagement April Hayhurst explained: "We have a number of vacancies available now and in the longer term for young people to take advantage of. Feedback so far is that both the schools and information evening events will be well attended.
"Apprenticeship recruitment is on the increase across all industry sectors and we are working proactively with businesses and organisations throughout the region to match young people's skills with job vacancies.
"This is a win-win situation. Young people get the chance to earn while they learn and businesses are able to invest in their future workforce through a structured skills training programme and young people get the chance to earn while they learn.
"Despite the economy, we have had a good year for sourcing and placing apprentices and December was particularly busy with apprenticeship opportunities including at JCB and Alfreton Town Football Club – both of which have already worked with us to find apprentices in recent months and are now expanding their programmes."
