Derby College Group student May Williams would ‘recommend her animal care course ‘100%’ to school leavers like herself who love being around animals.

Eighteen-year-old May lives in Beeston near Nottingham but chose to study at Broomfield Hall because of its wide variety of animals.

She said: “Broomfield is a lovely campus. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming and there are so many different types of animals there including horses and farm animals.”

May completes her Level 1 Diploma in Land Based Studies in Animal Care next June but would like to take further animal care courses at Broomfield, possibly in dog grooming.

She said: “We haven’t got a dog at home – I wish – but I’ve walked dogs before and we regularly pet sit for friends’ dogs so I have a lot of experience with different breeds. Taking a dog grooming course is another way of being around animals and learning about them.”

May’s family had fish, hamsters and guinea pigs when she was growing up and she realised at an early age that she wanted a job which involved working with animals.

She said: “I’ve always loved being outdoors too. At College I enjoy the practical side the most and I really like the exotic animals, although I’m happy to be with any of the animals.

My teachers are really nice, I’ve made new friends and I definitely prefer College to school. I’d recommend Broomfield Hall 100%.”
