Course Information for Students

This is a College certificate course but you will gain industry recognised qualifications awarded by City & Guilds for each unit achieved. It is a one-year course aimed at supporting you to achieve qualifications to work as a dog walker/pet sitter and it will also provide information and guidance on starting your own business. There will be elements of theory and practical lessons to develop your skills and knowledge.

You need a pass in a Level 2 Diploma in Animal Management programme.

In addition to any Maths and English CGSE/Functional Skills qualifications that are necessary, the course consists of:

  • Level 2 Certificate of Technical Competence in Dog Walking
  • Level 2 Certificate of Technical Competence in Pet Sitting
  • Level 2 Certificate of Technical Competence in Animal Health, Husbandry and Handling

This course will be delivered on-site at Broomfield Hall.

You will need to supply your own:

  • PPE (lab coat and steel toe-capped footwear)
  • Stationery and notebooks

You will be assessed via oral tests, written and practical assessments. 

After completing this course, it will be possible for you to become a dog walker or pet sitter or to work in other similar related fields. Alternatively, you can apply for an apprenticeship.
