Alvaston Infant and Nursery School wishes to appoint an Apprentice Teaching Assistant, who will work closely with the Headteacher, inclusion team and SENDCOs to support children with SEND and/or disabilities. We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting children with special educational needs.

You will be required to be flexible and work from 07:30 and until 18:00 on some days, as agreed with the school, depending on the school’s needs. 30-minute lunch break per day.

What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Support children with their learning and development, both individually and in small groups, under the guidance of teaching staff.
  • Help create a safe, caring and inclusive environment where all children can thrive.
  • Build positive relationships with children, particularly those with additional needs, and support their emotional well-being.
  • Assist with planning, preparing and delivering classroom activities and learning resources.
  • Observe and monitor children's progress, providing feedback to teachers and maintaining appropriate records.
  • Support children with personal care needs, including hygiene, dressing, eating and toileting where required.
  • Encourage children's independence, confidence and self-esteem in learning and everyday activities.
  • Follow school policies and procedures, including safeguarding, child protection, behaviour management and health and safety requirements.
  • Work closely with teachers, parents, carers and other professionals to support children's development and wellbeing.
  • Assist with therapy, care plans, interventions and personalised learning programmes where appropriate.
  • Support learning beyond the classroom through educational visits, lunchtime activities and enrichment opportunities.
  • Take part in staff meetings, training and professional development activities, and contribute positively to the wider life of the school.
