What will the apprentice be doing?

You will receive full supervision and training throughout your apprenticeship, developing practical skills and industry knowledge across a wide range of bespoke joinery projects. Our work is varied, fast-paced, and often scheduled at short notice, making this an exciting role for someone who enjoys learning and taking on new challenges.

Typical items manufactured in our workshop include:

  • Windows and doors
  • Garage doors
  • Shopfronts
  • Bespoke bars and back fittings
  • Stained, polished, and painted joinery products

As an Apprentice Joiner, you will assist with:

  • Measuring materials and checking their suitability for projects
  • Sanding timber and preparing surfaces for finishing
  • Cutting wood to specification
  • Assembling and joining components together
  • Staining, priming, painting, and finishing joinery products
  • Using a range of hand and power tools safely under supervision
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised working environment
  • Supporting the team in completing projects to agreed deadlines

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Carpentry and Joinery Level 2.

You will sent 4 days each week working alongside skills professionals with GLM Joinery and 1 day each week completing training at Derby College's Hudson Building.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you could progress from being a Trainee Joiner to a Full Bench Joiner. There is also the possibility to progress to a Level 3 Craft Joinery Apprenticeship.
