DCG Success Stories

GCSE Plus student Rajasi Soni is all set to study A-levels in Biology, Chemistry and Maths with Derby College Group after doing exceptionally well in her science and maths exams.

Rajasi, 18, achieved a 5 in Maths and an 8/7 in Combined Science, which were much higher grades in the core STEM subjects at GCSE than she had anticipated.

Achieving these great results has led to a complete change in her future career plans.

Rajasi, who also achieved a 5 in English Language, had originally intended to take A-levels in Psychology, Criminology and English Language at the Joseph Wright Centre, but has since had a major rethink.

She said: “It’s quite a drastic change, really. Taking science subjects at A-level was not what I’d expected to be doing at all.

“After seeing my results, though, I’ve decided that taking them might be better for my career prospects.

“I’m thinking that after A-levels, I’ll go to university and do a medical related degree. I don’t necessarily want to go into medicine, but that degree would open a lot of doors for me and I want to keep all my options open.”

Rajasi enrolled at the Joseph Wright Centre to do the GCSE Plus course after missing out on her GCSEs the first time round due to illness.

She said: “I wasn’t very well when we were doing our GCSEs at school, so I thought I’d try again.

“I’ve enjoyed studying for my exams at Derby College. I love the flexibility. There are more breaks at college if you need them, and it’s OK to go outside after a lesson if you want to.”
