Nayab wants to make a difference to people’s lives
Former Derby College A-level student Nayab Aslam has achieved her long-held ambition of getting into law school.
Nayab, 18, is off to Nottingham Trent University to study law after gaining A*s in Sociology and Criminology and an A in Psychology. She also got an A* in her EPQ.
She said: “I’m the daughter of an immigrant mother who has always encouraged me to strive for higher goals. I was just 18 months old when we came to the UK from Pakistan.
My mum didn’t go to university, but she is immensely proud of me and my brother who is now in his second year at Nottingham Trent University studying engineering.”
Nayab loved her time at Joseph Wright Centre and is pleased she chose to go there for A-levels.
She added: “I’ve loved the independence studying with Derby College has given me, and all the support we’ve had at A-level.
“I’ve particularly enjoyed Psychology as Rajni has made year two a great experience with all of her support during lessons.
“I equally enjoyed Sociology as Nina supported me with numerous lunch sessions and believed in my ability to get higher grades.”
Nayab would like to go into personal injury or family law after she graduates.
She added: “I was initially drawn to law and criminology partly by programmes on TV when I was growing up but also because I’d like to do something that makes a difference.
“I want to make it easier for those who might struggle to seek legal help to get access to the law.”
