DCG’s enrichment programme is the best anywhere says Kainaat
A-level student Kainaat Imran enjoyed taking GCSEs at Joseph Wright Centre but for her, it was Derby College Group’s extracurricular activities that really stood out.
Kainaat, this year’s Student Union Vice President, said: “Derby College has the best enrichment programme of any college or school anywhere.
“It was so exciting trying out escape rooms and going on trips to London, Manchester and Nottingham.
“I was involved in the Media Literacy Ambassador programme launched by the Guardian Foundation too. I got to do so much and visit so many new places while doing GCSE Plus. I had the best time.”
Previously educated at secondary schools in Ireland, Kainaat – who was named DCG student of the year last year – hadn’t taken GCSEs until she enrolled at college.
She achieved four grades at level 4 and above including 4/4 in Combined Science, 5 in Maths and 6 in English Language.
She is now taking A-levels in Criminology, Law and Sociology at Joseph Wright with the ultimate aim of becoming an intellectual property lawyer.
She added: “It’s one of the highest paid jobs in the legal profession and I want to aim high. No-one else in my family is a lawyer and it would be nice to be the first!”
And Kainaat, now 18, might be able to study at Oxford University if she gets the required two A*s and an A in her exams.
She was offered a provisional place there after entering the university’s Big Think competition and impressing the judges with her video exploring fake news.
