Former T Level student Dempsey Grinion has a clear idea of what he wants to do with his engineering degree.

The 18-year-old from Alvaston, has a place to study for a BEng with  Nottingham Trent University, having gained valuable hands-on experience during his T level Professional Construction course.

Demsey, who went to Merrill Academy, said: “The T Level has given me the equivalent of three A- levels but I prefer its practical hands-on approach to learning.

“By the time I’m 30 I want to be living outside of the UK and be a qualified structural engineer with five years’ experience.”

While on his T Level, Demsey did work experience with Derby-based construction firms GF Tomlinson and engineering consultant Jackson Perdue Lever, where he spent time on-site and doing office-based computer aided design (CAD) work.

The T Level has given me the equivalent of three A- levels but I prefer its practical hands-on approach to learning.
